State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Ernest Mawrie has said that the Central leadership of the party will solidly back its State unit’s demand against the removal of the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police.
The State BJP has made the demand alleging harassment of party workers while investigating state BJP vice-president and Tura MDC Bernard Marak’s case. Marak is accused of running a brothel at his farmhouse in Tura and is currently in police custody.
Mawried told reporters today that he recently returned from Delhi and submitted a report with regards to the incident and how Bernard was arrested.
He said the party will stick to its demand for the removal of the West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police, Vivekanand Singh Rathore, and Deputy Commissioner, Swapnil Tembe, in the interests of a free and fair investigation.
“The rest of the matter is subjudice. Let the court take its own course but we are not sitting silent, we are communicating with the central and north east leaders and will also meeting them within a week,” Mawrie said.
He said he will also visit Tura on August 15 to convene a meeting with party workers on the issue.
