Kingstone B. Marak, an activist and candidate of the BJP for the upcoming Rajabala by-election, has lodged a complaint to the Superintendent of Police, West Garo Hills seeking action against some contractors for alleged misappropriation of funds in the construction of the Tikrikilla College.
The complaint named contractor Thinker Marak and four others, who had allegedly misappropriated approximately Rs 1.7 crores in the construction of the college.
Few months back, the Lokayukta chairperson had ordered the Superintendent of Police, West Garo Hills to investigate the matter.
Allegations of misappropriation in the construction of the college has been a longstanding issue after works for major sections of the college were not even started, even more than a decade after the project was sanctioned.
In Case Number 13 of 2020, the Lokayukta had, vide order dated 18th March, 2021, asked the SP to resume the investigation into the matter and complete the same at the earliest. It also asked for the SP to get the respondent contractor brought to book immediately, if warranted and processed with prosecution in accordance with law.
The order also asked for the Deputy Commissioner to intimate a report of the status of the money suit filed by the governing body, Tikrikilla College on June 7, 2021 and if the case is still pending, to take necessary legal steps to decide/adjudicate the same as expeditiously as possible in accordance with law.
“Till date, none of the above directions have been complied with by your office and as a complainant in this case, I request you to act upon the order and take necessary legal action. The contractor needs to be immediately booked under the appropriate section of law for indulging in corruption,” Kingstone said in his complaint to the SP.
The BJP leader added that the court, through a preliminary inquiry, had prima facie, found the accused (contractors) of misappropriation of public funds to the tune of Rs 1,71,99,000.
“Therefore all the accused particularly, contractor Thinker Marak should be arrested/booked for investigation,” felt Kingstone.
