Cabinet Minister Sanbor Shullai met Union Joint Secretary of Home Affairs Piyush Goyal in New Delhi on Friday where he urged the Centre to be open to peace talks with the outlawed HNLC.
During the discussion, Shullai handed over a letter addressed to Union Home Minister Amit Shah updating him of the present situation in Meghalaya.
Shullai said that the Meghalaya BJP and the state government want the central government to expedite the peace process with the HNLC and help to restore complete peace and tranquillity in Meghalaya.
He said that the Centre has repeatedly assured the people of the North East of a better future, so the Ministry of Home Affairs can play a decisive role in engaging the HNLC in a meaningful dialogue under constitutional parameters.
