Tura MDC Bernard Marak has asked the Chief Minister and new GHADC Chief Executive Member to honour the order passed by the former executive committee which approved and endorsed the Meghalaya government resolution on the recommendations of the Fifth Meghalaya Pay Commission.
The order, as per Bernard, was signed by the secretary to the EC and directed all departments to prepare the pay and allowances of officers and staff in the new pay scale starting from the month of April 2018.
The order had also mentioned that arrears payable from January 1, 2017 to March 31, 2018 will be paid as and when the GHADC fund permitted.
“The copy of the letter was issued to all members and all departments under GHADC. The state government and the EC, including the officers and the employees are aware of the order passed in 2018. So why is the decision taken then is not honoured remains the question,” said Bernard.
The MDC stated that what was being demanded by the employees was already passed officially and remained their right to receive pay in a revised scale.
“The CM and CEM should consider the plea of the employees. GHADC employees might have voted for BJP in Tura but that should not be the reason to dent their rights. Whatever money is released by the state government should be paid to the employees in a revised scale justifying the order passed by the former Executive Committee. The sanctioned amount may not be sufficient for 34 months but let the salary be paid in a revised scale as much as can be accommodated,” he added, through a release today.
