Newly elected BJP Member of District Council (MDC) from Tura, Bernard Marak today said that the saffron party is a threat to National People’s Party (NPP) president Conrad Sangma in the 2023 Assembly polls.
Marak said that if BJP is in EC, it will not allow corruption and hence sidelined by the new executive committee formed today.
“I have won from his area (Conrad). It covers four MLA constituencies South Tura, North Tura, parts of Rangsakona and parts of Gambegre. Majority of the vote I got is from South Tura (represented by the Chief Minister),” the BJP MDC said.
He said that if he is in the new EC, the party will not allow corruption and justify the misappropriations made by the previous NPP led EC.
“If done, it will be a threat to him in the 2023 assembly election. That is the main reason why he is trying to sideline the BJP. They are apprehensive towards BJP since it is gaining ground support in the Garo Hills,” Marak stated.
According to the Tura MDC, the NPP thought that BJP will not get the support of the tribals and the Christians. “There is open support for BJP which has become a threat to for his constituency, as well as for his party,” Marak said.
He also added that the BJP MDCs are firm and would stick to the decision taken by central leadership and State president.
