Shillong, Oct 13: The State government will set up the Meghalaya Skills Innovation Hub at New Shillong through Asian Development Bank (ADB) funding under the ‘Supporting Human Capital Development in Meghalaya’ (Phase 2).
Estimated to cost Rs 82 crore, the bidding process for the project is in progress. The construction is expected to start by January 2025 and is expected to be completed by 2027.
The New Shillong Township Development Agency has transferred five acres of land at Mawkhanu to the Meghalaya State Skills Development Society (MSSDS) for setting up of the Meghalaya Skills Innovation Hub.
The aim of the proposed Meghalaya Skills Innovation Hub is to expand skill development opportunities in Meghalaya through value added top-up professional courses (National Skill Qualification Framework).
The innovation hub will offer sector specific top up courses to enhance employability and long-term training in selected trades. It will also offer aspirational skills development opportunities and provide a conducive space for youth and young entrepreneurs to pursue innovation.
The innovation hub will be a campus with seven building components. The total built-up area is proposed to be 10,354 square metres on a plot area of 22,990 square metres.
The innovation hub will have innovation and startup space, skills, events and co-working space, skills and training facilities, industry colocator building, administrative building, hostel, and guest house.
