The process for construction of the skywalk and tourist hub at Mawkdok in Sohra has started.
The Tourism Department has invited biddings for the project with an estimated cost of Rs 50.90 crore.
The last date for submission of financial and technical bids is December 12.
The time for completion of the skywalk and tourist hub is 36 months.
Mawkdok is a popular viewpoint, and is a must-stop destination for tourists visiting the Sohra tourism circuit. At Mawkdok, one can witness the spectacular view of a valley formed by lush green hills on either side.
The skywalk project at Mawkdok Dympep Valley has been conceived to provide a captivating viewpoint to the tourists that throng the area.
The size of the site is 0.54 acres while the size of the area for development of the pedestrian skywalk deck is 2195 square metre.
A glass bridge was also conceived to provide a captivating viewpoint to the tourists that visit the spot.
There will be amenities for the tourists around the skywalk and will include restaurants and retail spaces besides parking space.
Funded under the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for the North East Region (PM-DevINE) Scheme, the project proposal for the skywalk and tourist hub was approved in-principle by the eight Empowered Inter-Ministerial Committee meeting held on February 28.
Techno-economic vetting of the detailed project report was done by the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Meghalaya.
