Bharti Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the conglomerate Bharti Enterprises, won the gold award for being the ‘Best Corporate Foundation’ at the CSR TIMES Awards 2020 for its education initiatives during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Since 2018 the Bharti Foundation has partnered with 50 SSA and government schools in Meghalaya.
Under its Satya Bharti Quality support programme, whose aim is to enhance the overall schooling experience for students and teachers, more than 6,800 students and 270 teachers from East Jaintia Hills and West Jaintia Hills are being impacted.
Since the obstruction to schooling began in March, Bharti Foundation’s teachers connected to parents and created around 1,000 WhatsApp groups to reach out to students.
“The shift from regular to online classes took just two days and was possible because of our monthly phone PTMs (parent-teacher meetings) that were held before the pandemic,” the Foundation said.
“We are honoured to receive the prestigious award,” Bharti Foundation CEO Mamta Saikia said. “The award is a testimony to the efforts being invested by our staff and reaffirms our commitment towards the foundation’s mission of delivering quality education to underprivileged children. We are proud that we could keep our students engaged even during the Covid-19 induced lockdown and still continuing with the online classes.”
