Shillong, Jul 27: Tura MDC Bernard N Marak has expressed disappointment over the what he said is the premature conclusion of the 14th session of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), citing the need for a special session to address the critical issue of non-payment of salaries for 43 months.
Marak stated that the council’s own employees are facing significant hardships in meeting their daily expenses, paying educational fees and attending to medical needs. He criticised the executive committee’s failure to provide assurances or discuss initiatives.
“In previous sessions, I have offered numerous suggestions to the Executive Members to generate additional revenue but they have been unsuccessful despite multiple proposals,” Marak said. “The lack of all-party meetings and discrepancies in the state’s share details have added to the urgency.”
