Tura MDC Bernard N Marak has taken up an initiative to plant 10,000 trees in his constituency and to reach more than 1 million (10 lakh) trees in the entire Garo Hills.
This initiative is aimed at covering the catchment areas that fall under the Nokmas and other water sources that are drying up in Garo Hills.
“This is a threat to human life, especially the younger generation that will face the consequences if nature is not cared for now,” Marak said. “It is a sad fact that nature has been destroyed by human greed and the ecosystem has been thrown out of balance.”
Marak also stated that eco clubs will be formed in colleges, schools and A’khings to take up the plantation mission in Garo Hills.
“Every individual must care for Mother Nature and it is Mother Nature who will restore the balance,” the MDC added.
He also invited young people to join the Mission 1 Million (M1M) to make Meghalaya green and stable.
