Tura MDC and state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) vice-president Bernard N Marak today questioned why post-matric students are reportedly receiving less financial support that the Chief Minister has promised in the Assembly.
According to Marak, the CM told the house on March 5 that the state will provide Rs 6,000 as post-matric scholarship on top of the amount provided by the central government.
“This declaration was made during the budget session, which was highly anticipated by the students, who, to their utter surprise, mostly received less than Rs 6,000 each from CM’s scholarship scheme,” Marak said. “The amount credited to some student’s account is less than the said amount, which raises queries that need to be brought to the CM’s office for clarification and rectification.”
The actual amounts received by students, the MDC said, range from Rs 1,500 to Rs 3,000. “This has given rise to confusion and doubts among the students,” Marak, a persistent opponent of the CM, added, while calling for the anomalies to be noted and rectified.
