The Border Security Force (BSF) arrested a Bangladeshi national from near the international border in East Khasi Hills district, officials said today.
The 20-year old identified as Md Sujon Ahmed of Sunamganj, Bangladesh was arrested after BSF troops spotted him inside the bushes yesterday.
Following his lead an Indian identified as Md Sukurie (22) a resident of Nadia in West Bengal was also arrested for aiding the Bangladeshi to cross over the border.
BSF officials said that the Bangladeshi had divulge that he illegally entered India to go to West Bengal to earn a livelihood as some of his compatriots are already working there.
Both the arrested persons were handed over to police in Dangar outpost and an FIR has been lodged against them, the BSF added.
