Bangladesh is keen to open more border haats along its border with Meghalaya, officials from the neighbouring country informed.
This desire was conveyed by the Bangladesh High Commissioner to India, Muhammad Imran, during his meeting with Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong on Wednesday.
During the meeting between Tynsong and Imran the need for an additional Land Custom Station in East Khasi Hills was also discussed, since the one at Dawki, West Jaiñtia Hills is congested due to increase in export activities.
Speaking to reporters after his meeting with Imran, the Deputy Chief Minister informed that the Bangladesh High Commissioner to India would be visiting Dawki on Thursday.
During his visit to Dawki, the Bangladesh High Commissioner will also tour a few proposed sites for setting up of the additional land custom station.
Tynsong informed that the State government has proposed to the Centre the setting up of 12 more border haats.
Imran, informed reporters, that during the meeting with the Deputy Chief Minister, discussion on cooperation on various fronts between two countries especially Meghalaya were taken up.
The Bangladesh High Commissioner to India said he hoped that ties between the two countries would improve.
“Bangladesh has developed a lot and we can share our experiences and learn from each other. We hope that there will be more interactions between the two countries and we develop together,” Imran said.
