The Ri-Bhoi District Magistrate has passed prohibitory orders, under Section 144 of the CrPC, against the illegal sale or cultivation of illegal or unapproved genetically modified (GM) seed within the district.
The order was passed after it was learnt that such sales were going on, which could have a negative effect on the environment, the authorities believe.
