Shillong, Feb 24: The District Magistrate of East Khasi Hills has issued a prohibitory order under Section 163 of the BNSS prohibiting plying of heavy loaded vehicles exceeding 9 tonnes load capacity on roads within the district.
Anybody who violates the order shall be prosecuted under Section 223 of the BNS.
The order is necessitated in view of information received that overloaded vehicles are plying along the Mawmaram-Nongthliew-Mawmih-Mawlyndep Road and such vehicles have damaged portions of the road and pose a danger to villagers and pedestrians due to the narrow width of the road.
This order shall come into force with immediate effect and remain in force until further orders.
