As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mohotsav celebrations to mark 75 years of Indian independence and the glorious history of its people, culture and achievements, the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting’s Regional Outreach Bureau today commemorate the milestone with an event at Umsning, Ri-Bhoi.
Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi, Arpit Upadhaya, was the chief guest and the Block Development Officer of Umsning block, Raja Brahma, as guest of honour. The celebration was also attended by the Director of the Regional Outreach Bureau, Engam Pame, and the village heads and students from various schools of the Umsning area.
The event saw songs and traditional dances performed by local troupe Snap Paka and different pictures of freedom fighters were also exhibited during the celebration.
Upadhyaya lauded the initiative taken by the ministry and recalled the sacrifices of freedom fighters. He also said that because of these sacrifices the country is progressing in all-round developments therefore it is our duty to respect them and work hard for the progress and prosperity of the nation.
The celebration concluded with a technical session in the evening in which the resource persons spoke on inclusive education and the National Health Mission in Umsning cluster.
