Superintending Engineer (Energy Management) of Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL), H Jyrwa has been reinstated and all charges against him dropped after over five months of being under suspension from service.
The disciplinary authority instituted by the corporation, based on the inquiry report submitted by MeECL Company Secretary G S Mukherjee could not establish the allegations levelled by the management against the engineer.
As per the inquiry report, Jyrwa acted as per practice and in line with the office order of March 18, 2013.
It may be mentioned that Jyrwa was suspended from service on February 17 for allegedly failing to perform his duty diligently and failing to abide by the standards and procedure of the corporation while initiating the process of banking and swapping of energy with Kreat Energy Pvt Ltd and Arunachal Pradesh Power Corporation Pvt Ltd on October 22, 2020.
In an order passed on August 9, MeECL Director of Corporate Affairs, Cyril V D Diengdoh said the charges imposed against Jyrwa have been dropped and that he should be reinstated to his post with immediate effect. His entire period of suspension was treated as on duty.
It may be mentioned that the suspension of Jywa from service was strongly opposed by all employees of MeECL who had also demanded his reinstatement even as the management never clarified the reasons for suspending him from service then.
Jyrwa’s colleagues had vouched for his impeccable character and career, a rare certificate from fellow engineers.
Meanwhile, the Coordination Committee of Registered MeECL Employees Associations and Unions (CCORMAU) has hailed the reinstatement of the engineer.
When asked for a comment on the reinstatement order, the CCORMAU vice president, Arju Dkhar said that the association had always maintained that Jyrwa was innocent and his removal was only a strategy by the previous MeECL management to do power trading.
“Who would be held responsible for the extreme agony caused to the official and his family? Would he be compensated?” Dkhar questioned.
