Shillong, Mar 20: The District Tuberculosis Officer of Jaintia Hills organised an awareness programme on the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme at Iongkaluh Sub-Centre, East Jaintia Hills, on Wednesday.
Senior Tuberculosis Laboratory Supervisor, Watson Siangshai, highlighted the causes, symptoms and types of TB, including pulmonary and extra pulmonary TB.
He urged attendees to get tested if they notice symptoms like persistent cough, coughing blood or chest pain.
Siangshai also informed about free medical check-ups and financial assistance available to TB patients, including Rs 1,000 per month under Nikshay Poshan Yojana. ASHA workers and individuals bringing TB patients for testing and treatment are also incentivised.
A skit on “Yes, We Can End TB” was performed, and a miking programme was conducted at Khliehriat and Ladrymbai markets to sensitise communities and encourage early detection and treatment.
