The College of Community Science at Tura, under the Central Agriculture University (Manipur) organised an awareness programme on World Bamboo Day for the students and farmers of West Garo Hills on Monday.
Namita Singh, Dean in charge of the college, expressed her views on the importance of World Bamboo Day and expressed her gratitude to Charseng Ch Marak, Divisional Officer of the Soil and Water Conservation (T) Division, Forestilla, Tura, for gracing the occasion as the chief guest.
Marak delivered an insightful address on the importance of World Bamboo Day and different schemes under the National Bamboo Mission. The programme continued with the various lectures like importance and scope of bamboo cultivation in the North East hill region, bamboo textiles and handicraft products and value-added food products of bamboo.
Different bamboo products were also showcased at the college. Around 50 people participated in the programme, according to a press release.
