On the occasion of World Population Day, a special awareness programme was organised at NERIE NCERT here today.
Several schools from the region participated in the event, such as KV Umroi Cantonment, KV NEPA Umiam, the MeECL School, Christ International School and Army Public School Umroi.
Each school was represented by 15 students, who participated in various competitions that aimed to raise awareness about global population issues, sustainability and environmental responsibility.
Competitions conducted included slogan writing, poster making, drawing, etc. KV Umroi Cantonment came first in the pledge wall competition and took three second-place positions as well.
The programme was coordinated by Basansy Kharlukhi, faculty member at NERIE NCERT. Prof Floret G Dkhar, Principal of NERIE NCERT Shillong emphasised the importance of youth participation in addressing population-related challenges and building a sustainable future.
