An awareness programme for Muga farmers was organised by the Central Silk Board, Mendipathar unit today at Pub Jira, Goalpara.
A total of 35 progressive farmers and new Muga farmers from Mendipathar, Jira, Bamunipanikhowa attended the programme.
Scientist-D MESSO Guwahati, Dr. Lopamudra Guha attended the programme as the chief guest in the presence of Dr.Vikram Kumar Scientist-C, Rompara unit and Dr. K Indirakumar, Scientist-C, Tura unit.
The programme laid emphasis on more scientific practical knowledge about Muga silkworm rearing activities.
Kumar discussed on maintenance of food plants, and seed crop rearing during Aherua and Bhodia seasons which Mahasankar Majumdar, Scientist-C and officer in-charge of the unit discussed about disinfection procedure of rearing field, brushing technique through perforated paper envelope and the merits of the technique.
Indirakumar discussed about income generation from Muga rearing and some diseases of Muga larva and Dr Lopamudra Guha spoke on pre brushing and post rearing care of the crop. She also emphasised on value addition from rearing to reeling.
Others who spoke at the programme were village headman, Nilmoni Rabha and Arjun Rabha a Silk Samgra-2 beneficiary.
