A one-day awareness programme on promotion of Silk Mark under the North Eastern Region Textiles Promotion Scheme (NERTPS) was organised by the East Garo Hills District Sericulture Officer in collaboration with the Central Silk Board, Ministry of Textiles at DRDA Hall in Williamnagar today.
East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Swapnil Tembe, while speaking as the chief guest on the occasion, informed the gathering that the demand for silk face masks during the lockdown was an indication of huge demand for silk products in the district and lauded the District Sericulture Officer, Sanre G Momin, for her initiatives by producing face masks from silk during the lockdown.
While talking about plantations for rearing silk worms, the Deputy Commissioner also informed that the farmers can avail financial assistance under the MGNREGS for eri and mulberry plantations and urged the silk farmers and producers to tie up with the Common Services Centre (CSC) for the purpose of on-line advertisements.
The Assistant Director of Silk Mark Organisation, Guwahati, P Modak, while giving power point presentations, stressed on the importance of distinction between silk yarn and non-silk yarn and urged the people not to get dubbed by the sellers. He also informed that the purpose of Silk Mark is to protect the genuine silk farmers as well as the consumers of silk products.
Delivering the key-note address, Sanre G Momin, highlighted the benefits of Silk Mark and informed that the Sericulture Department is ready to render necessary help to the farmers in order to increase the silk production in the state.
Senior Technician of the Sericulture Department, GM Marak, while delivering the motivational speech to the silk farmers and producers of the region, said that one must have a heart towards the welfare of the people while serving the government departments in various capacities.
