An awareness campaign about the Myntdu River and its pollution, which aims to draw attention of the citizens to contribute to its rehabilitation and improvement, was held at the Loomkyrwiang dorbar hall in Jowai.
The programme was organised by the Khooid Ya Ka Wah Myntdu (KYM) yesterday.
KYM president Khroo Lamsalanki Pariat who chaired the programme highlighted about the organisation and its works in protecting and restoring the ailing river, harmed by pollution caused by dumping of mud and debris.
Member of the group, Ruhipaia Lamar said the river is a blessing from God, since it is a source of drinking water to the residents.
Daioolang Pakma, symbud waheh shnong of Loomkyrwiang suggested ways to protect the river. He also appealed to residents to shoulder the responsibility of protecting the river and to support the KYM in its fight to keep the Myntdu clean.
