A webinar cum mass awareness campaign on organic farming in North East India was organized by ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam in collaboration with ICAR-Indian Institute of Farming System Research (IIFSR), Modipuram.
The programme held yesterday was attended by more than 250 participants from different states including farmers, rural youths, researchers, extension workers, staffs of line department and KVKs, research fellows, students and input dealers.
Lectures on scientific package of practices of organic farming of various crops, role of integrated organic farming system (IOFS) models for food and nutritional security, insect-pest management under organic farming and certification procedures were highlighted by different experts.
Dr. N. Ravisankar, National PI, AI-NPOF, ICAR-IIFSR gave a brief lecture on mass awareness campaign of organic farming going in different parts of India under NPOF project and highlighted the different schemes of the government for promotion of organic farming.
ICAR Research complex director, Dr. V.K. Mishra emphasized the need of growing important crops (especially GI tag crops) under organic farming and the marketing strategies to get high price for the produce of the region.
The programme concluded with promises from ICAR for technical guidance for promotion of sustainable organic farming in the region.
