An awareness campaign on Ayush practices for better nutrition, Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) practices and anaemia was organised by the office of the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) in collaboration with the Ayush at the Mawkyrwat presbytery hall today.
Anganwadi workers from Mawkyrwat, Mawlangwir and Nonglang villages participated in the campaign which was part of the Poshan Maah month.
Ayush physician Dr N. Dhar spoke on the importance of a balanced diet and anaemia in pregnancy and stressed on the need to eat green leafy vegetables, fruits and food rich in proteins for a healthy life.
On the IYCF, Dr Dhar said breastfeeding is an important child survival intervention. She said breast milk also continues to protect the child from many illnesses, and helps the child grow.
CDPO of the ICDS Project, H. Sahkhar spoke on severe acute malnutrition (SAM) and the three widely recognised indicators of a child’s nutritional status of stunting, underweight and wasting.
