Shillong, Aug 18: The Estimates Committee of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly has noted the delay in the ongoing construction of the ITI at Nongkhrah in Ri Bhoi and said the department should resolve the infrastructure and utility issues promptly.
A delegation of the committee led by Chairman and Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem, conducted a spot inspection of several projects.
The committee inspected the ITI project and found that the delay was due to issues such as approach road construction, external electrification, and water supply. “The committee has taken note of these challenges and will pursue them with the concerned departments to ensure the project becomes functional at the earliest,” Syiem said.
The Nongpoh Polytechnic project is progressing well and is expected to be completed in the coming months, which will benefit students through various technical courses, he said.
The delegation also visited the under-construction office of the Block Development Officer at Umsning C&RD Block and directed the concerned contractor to complete the work by November 2025.
Committee members MLAs, Charles Marngar, Wailadmiki Shylla, Adelbert Nongrum, Remington G. Momin and Dr. Celestine Lyngdoh along with senior government officials and local leaders were present during the inspection.
