Shillong, Jul 24: The Meghalaya Assembly’s committee on public undertakings conducted a spot inspection of various industrial units financed by the Meghalaya Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) in the Byrnihat Industrial Area of Ri-Bhoi today.
The primary objective of the visit was to assess the status of loan repayments by industrial units that have availed financial assistance from MIDC. The committee reviewed the progress of both defaulters and partially compliant parties.
The inspection was led by Brening A Sangma MLA, the chairman of the committee. He was accompanied by committee members, the MLAs Marthon Sangma, Heavingstone Kharpran, Celestine Lyngdoh, Banteidor Lyngdoh and Pius Marwein.
The committee found that CMJ Breweries was consistent and on schedule with its repayment obligations. Greystone Strips Pvt Ltd and Greystone Smetters Pvt Ltd, which had previously defaulted, have made partial repayments. However, the Managing Director of the company will need to be contacted for further clarification, as the dues remain unsettled and incomplete.
The Byrnihat Hotel Cum Shopping Complex has been unable to complete its project due to the absence of electricity supply. This has severely hampered the progress and operational viability of the complex, thereby affecting its ability to generate revenue and repay the loan. The Committee assured that it will take up the matter with the concerned departments to facilitate a resolution to the power supply issue.
