Shillong, Jan 27: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong today informed that the most recent dispute between Assam and Meghalaya in the disputed village of Maikhuli has been resolved.
On January 21 residents on the Assam side objected to the raising of an electric pole in the village by Meghalaya’s state-owned power utility.
Tynsong said that this is just one example of stray incidents of border skirmishes along the Meghalaya-Assam border. Tynsong said that these incidents are due to misunderstandings.
Referring to the incident in Maikhuli, Ri-Bhoi, he said that the state government directed the Ri-Bhoi Deputy Commissioner to have a meeting with his Assam counterpart and a peace committee has been formed to resolve the issues.
“Now everything is resolved and the erection of the electricity pole has been allowed by Assam,” he added.
