The Assam Rifles men’s football team won the Assam Rifles Sentinels Cup, beating the 165 Territorial Army Infantry Battalion (Home and Hearth) in the final at Laitkor today.
The other teams that participated were Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram, Meghalaya and the 164 TA (H&H).
Arunachal Pradesh had won the corresponding women’s final yesterday. In both cases, the Assam Rifles did not intimate the scoreline in its press releases.
The first phase of the men’s tournament was conducted at Dimapur, Nagaland. After a very exciting competition between the seven teams with a few nail biting finishes, four teams – Assam Rifles, Meghalaya, 165 TA Team and Mizoram, qualified for the semifinals.
The Sentinels Cup began on July 1 in Dimapur with the opening ceremony graced by Maj Gen Manish Kumar.
