Shillong, Aug 30: An Assam Police constable was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl in Ri Bhoi district.
The incident took place on August 27 at the village under the jurisdiction of Mawlasnai Outpost, police said.
Though the accused managed to flee after the act, a police team was dispatched to Lumding in Assam, where he was arrested on August 28.
Police said he was brought to Nongpoh the same day. A case was registered Under Section 3(a)/4/5(a)(iv)(m)/6/18 POCSO Act.
“Investigation is underway and the chargesheet will be filed soon. We will ensure the trial is completed at the earliest,” Ri Bhoi SP Vivekanand Singh Rathore said.
Proceedings have also been initiated to provide compensation as per law, he added.
