Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) of Meghalaya will resume work from tomorrow after 18 days of going on strike.
The announcement was made today by Meghalaya ASHA Workers’ Union (MAWU) president Mirajune Myrsing after a meeting of the executive committee of the union held at Golf-Links community hall here.
“We have decided to call off our agitation and resume work with immediate effect,” she said.
However, Myrsing said that MAWU is yet to decide on whether to accept or reject the decision of the Health Department to enhance the fixed incentive to ASHAs to Rs 3,000 under the newly launched Community Based Health Incentive Scheme (CHIS).
According to her, MAWU would wait for the State government to constitute the committees at the district level to examine the demands put forward by the union.
Myrsing also said that today’s meeting decided to give three months’ time to the State government to constitute the committees for implementation of the new scheme.
The ASHA workers under the banner of MAWU have been on an indefinite strike since November 7 as a mark of protest against the State government’s refusal to enhance their monthly honorarium from Rs 2,000 to Rs 5,000 besides other demands. They had also planned to stage a protest march to the State Secretariat on November 27.
