Shillong, Sep 18: The State Level Arogya Fair 2025 was held on Thursday by the Health & Family Welfare Department in collaboration with the Ministry of AYUSH and National AYUSH Mission.
Themed, “Prevent, Promote & Preserve – The AYUSH Approach”, the fair aimed to promote AYUSH treatment and support traditional systems of medicine.
Addressing the gathering, Health Minister Wailadmiki Shylla urged citizens to adopt a healthy lifestyle and prioritize wellness.
“Health is the foundation of every society; a strong and prosperous state can only be built on the pillars of physical, mental, and social well-being of its people,” he said.
Shylla stated that through the Arogya fair, not only modern medical advancements are being highlighted but also celebrating the wisdom of traditional systems of healing like Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, Homoeopathy, and Naturopathy.
“These systems have stood the test of time and continue to offer holistic solutions for preventive and curative healthcare,” Shylla said.
The Health Minister also emphasised that improving health is a shared responsibility among policymakers, healthcare workers, the community, and individuals. He stated that if everybody works hand in hand, combining traditional knowledge with modern practices, one can build a healthcare system that is not only accessible and affordable but also sustainable and inclusive.
Shylla also said that the Arogya fair should be more than just an event and it should mark the beginning of a renewed commitment, where government, practitioners, and people come together as partners in health.”
Commissioner & Secretary Joram Beda highlighted the significance of the programme, noting that the State Level Arogya Fair is one of the largest events organised by the National AYUSH Mission in Meghalaya.
“We cannot underscore the importance of AYUSH, given that the disease burden of non-communicable diseases is at its highest. It has broken all kinds of barriers, and there is a very strong case for AYUSH streams of medicine to be part of mainstream treatment protocols,” Beda said.
