A workshop on importance of agriculture in daily life and mushroom cultivation was organised by the Army Public School Umroi Military Station for its students recently.
Students of classes V-VIII took part in the workshop which was attended by an award winning farmer, Kynshew Dapsuk Kharkrang as the resource person.
The workshop started with a presentation on mushroom cultivation wherein all details related to the topic were imparted theoretically. The second and more interesting phase included the demonstration of mushroom cultivation where in the students were very keen on knowing as much as they could about this unexplored art of mushroom cultivation.
Students were also given a chance to lay their hands on to the practical aspects of the workshop. A small plantation drive was also undertaken by the students in which variety of seeds to include watermelon, garlic were planted in the school premises.
“The workshop proved to be a big step in linking the students to the agricultural disciplines,” Principal of the school, Dr Shipra Basu said.
She lamented that the product of modern education has not been able to tap the enormous opportunities in agriculture and cottage industry because there is lack of necessary skills, attitude and understanding.
“Thus in order to revive our rural economy and lead it to the path of self reliance of the older days, school can play an important role by developing the necessary attitude and skills among children,” she said.
