Khliehriat, Jan 30: The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), East Jaintia Hills District busted an interstate drug trafficking syndicate and arrested four persons, police said today.
Acting on specific intelligence the ANTF team launched the operation at Umkiang police Patrol Post, under Lumshnong Police Station, today that led to the recovery of over 45.5 grams of heroin, worth around Rs. 20 lakhs in the illegal market.
East Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police Vikash Kumar said the team intercepted an oil tanker truck bearing registration number AS 11 DC-1200. Following a search four soap boxes containing the drug were recovered from an oil tanker.
These apprehended drug suppliers are suspected to be part of larger organised crime syndicate working for inter-state transportation of drugs, the SP said.
The arrested persons are Shymal Boro of Lokhra Chariali, Matab Uddin of Khelma Pt-VII, Ataur Rohman of Shiberchak and Biren Singha of Madhopur, all from Assam. Their mobile phones were also seized.
A case has been registered at Lumshnong Police Station under the NDPS Act, and investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, the ANTF in South West Garo Hills arrested two persons for transporting 27.257 kg ganja near Garodoba OGC, SH-12 Road yesterday.
Police said the team intercepted a Maruti Suzuki Omni-E Van (ML-08-H-8546) after it developed a mechanical defect.
The contraband was found inside the vehicle, packed in two blue plastic packets.
