Right to Information (RTI) activist Disparsing Rani has uncovered another 468 vacant posts in state government departments.
This is the latest such finding of Rani’s, coming on the heels of 1,708 vacancies he revealed on February 10. His revelations come as and when the government departments respond to his RTI requests.
The vacant posts he detailed today are to be found at various levels in the Public Works Department, Public Health Engineering, Forests and Environment, Labour and Health and Family Welfare.
He said that the data shows that there are 247 vacant posts in the PHE Department, 90 in the PWD, 82 in Forests, 29 in Labour and 20 in Health (specifically in the North Garo Hills District Medical and Health office). He is still waiting on data from the DMHO of East Khasi Hills two months after filing his request.
Other irregularities were uncovered as well, he said, such as the apparent failure of the state government to make good on its promise in 2017 of assuring government jobs in the PHE Department for members of families who donated their land for government projects. He also said that an appointment under compassionate grounds was made by the PHE Department in 2016 despite the practice being withdrawn in 2010.
