An animal health camp was conducted today at Thadnongiaw village in Ri-Bhoi under the NICRA–TDC project.
The programme was organized by KrishiVigyan Kendra (KVK) Ri-Bhoi in collaboration with the Division of Animal and Fishery Sciences at ICAR Research Complex for North Eastern Hill (NEH) Region, Umiam, and ICAR–National Institute of Veterinary Epidemiology and Disease Informatics, Bengaluru.
More than 40 farmers actively participated in the camp, which aimed to enhance livestock health and productivity through practical and need-based interventions. Live demonstrations were conducted on deworming, vaccination and the importance of regular vitamin and mineral supplementation for maintaining animal health, a press release said.
During the interactive session, experts Sameer Das of ICAR Umiam and Moloy Sarmah Baruah of ICAR-KVK Ri-Bhoi emphasised the importance of biosecurity measures to prevent disease outbreaks. They highlighted practices such as proper fencing of animal sheds, controlled access to farms and maintenance of personal hygiene as effective ways to minimise the risk of disease transmission.
The programme also focused on strengthening farmers’ technical knowledge and practical skills for improved livestock management, productivity enhancement, and climate resilience. Farmers were encouraged to adopt sustainable farming practices to ensure long-term animal health and farm sustainability in the face of changing climatic conditions.
The camp concluded with the distribution of veterinary medicines and personal hygiene kits to participating farmers.
