The Niksamso A’chik Society (NAS) expressed its unhappiness with the Urban Affairs Department and local leaders of Williamnagar over the slow progress of development work in the town.
In a press release, general secretary of NAS, Tengrak R Marak, pointed to the footpath in Kusimkolgre locality in Williamnagar, a huge chunk of which has disappeared over the years, leaving a gaping hole for pedestrians to somehow negotiate or avoid altogether.
“This is the main footpath for most of the people and school children from Gencies Academic School. The matter has been notified to the local MLA of Williamnagar, the Urban Affairs and different government departments since its collapse,” said Tengrak. “What are the local MLA and Urban Affairs meant for if they cannot repair a footpath after so many years?” he asked, while adding that the people of Garo Hills have become silent onlookers despite development not coming their way.
