Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh took a tour of agricultural facilities in North Garo Hills yesterday, accompanied by Kharkutta MLA Rupert Momin.
The visit encompassed tours of Sarangma Horti Hub and other facilities. The visit was to oversee and evaluate these facilities so that they will benefit farmers at the earliest.
Sarangma has a nursery focused on black pepper and Khasi mandarins and a polyhouse (a type of greenhouse) for gerbera (a type of ornamental flowering plant). These are functioning well and have been receiving positive feedback from those using it, Lyngdoh was told.
The Integrated Bee Development Centre (IBDC) at Sambrak has state of the art facilities for providing training, processing, testing and manufacturing of bee boxes for honey production. The department will make the centre fully operational in the coming months.
The minister also visited the Sambrak farm, which covers an area of 144 hectares, where very shortly a project is due to be operationalised that will provide adequate farming-related training and other activities.
