Shillong, Sep 16 : The Assembly Committee for Women Empowerment has written to the Director of Health Services
Dr Aman War to inquire into the case of a 15-year-old boy who died of Covid-19 last week.
Committee Chairperson Ampareen Lyngdoh told reporters that if children, mothers and newborns are affected by the virus in Shillong city then there is a need to ascertain whether the health system in the rest of the state is prepared for an increase in the numbers of symptomatic Covid-19 patients.
The teenager from Mawpat, Welldoneboy Marbaniang, was taken to hospital suffering from illness but his Covid test report only arrived after he passed away.
The young boy was diagnosed with undifferentiated febrile illness with acute respiratory distress syndrome, septic shock and died at Dr H Gordon Roberts Hospital.
“We have witnessed that the numbers of deaths have increased rapidly in the last two weeks. We will like to know if the government is prepared to tackle in places where there are large numbers of positive Covid-19 cases,” Lyngdoh said.
She also wanted to know if the state has enough pediatricians and said that women in quarantine at Corona Care Centres need special attention.
