Two of the five suspended Congress legislators, Ampareen Lyngdoh and Mohendro Rapsang have spelled out their intent on whose boat they will set sail for the 2023 elections.
While Lyngdoh maintained that if she has to leave the Congress she will opt for a party with “headquarters in the State”, Rapsang’s choice would be the National People’s Party (NPP).
Stating that it is very hard to understand the way of functioning of the national parties whose headquarters are outside the state, Lyngdoh said she never saw any proper examination or responsibilities taken by the Congress high command after all the disorders that occurred within the state Congress party
“Now the denial of the party tickets to the five sitting Congress MLAs is also a decision taken so distantly and something which cannot be understood,” she said, adding, “If I have to leave the Congress, then I will not return to a national party whose headquarters are outside the state because the action taken by such parties are not clear.”
Asked if she will also opt for the regional parties, she maintained that she cannot say regional or non regional because the interpretation of the term regional is also very open to debate.
Lyngdoh reiterated that the decision of the five MLAs to support the MDA government was taken along with the congress MDCs in the presence of an AICC representative.
Rapsang made his stand clear and said though he has not joined any political party at the moment his inclination is towards the NPP.
“Though several political parties have contacted me asking me to join them, my inclination is towards the NPP and this is my clear stand,” he said.
Earlier, suspended Congress MLA from Mawlai, Process T Sawkmie confirmed that he will contest the 2023 state election on a United Democratic Party (UDP) ticket.
Rambrai Jyrngam MLA, Kimfa Marbaniang and Nongpoh MLA, Mayralborn Syiem have not spelled out their decisions as yet.
