Incumbent East Shillong legislator M Ampareen Lyngdoh has filed an FIR with police claiming that a voice recording purportedly involving her promising cash for votes in Monday’s election is fake.
“The contents of the screenshot show a false conversation in Khasi between an unidentified individual and a WhatsApp account impersonating me,” she said in the FIR filed with Laitumkhrah police. “The WhatsApp account seen in the screenshot has used a publicly available photograph of me as its profile photograph and has engaged in a fake conversation which discusses the illegal use of cash-for-votes during the upcoming Assembly elections in Meghalaya.”
The National People’s Party (NPP) candidate asked police to take immediate action against the individuals responsible for the malicious conversation that was, she said, meant to negatively influence the 2023 election.
