Chairperson of the Assembly’s committee on women’s empowerment, Ampareen Lyngdoh, has requested the Vice-Chancellor of the Central Agricultural University in Imphal to immediately suspend the Dean of the College of Community Science in Tura following allegations made against her.
In a letter, Lyngdoh said that the serious allegations of exploitation have been noted by the committee, which is concerned that the Dean has reportedly threatened the complainants to withdraw their FIR.
Over the past few months, the Dean has reportedly asked the staff who made the complaint to spend nights in her quarters on campus, do domestic work for her and give her body massages.
Lyngdoh also told Highland Post that she has informed the Director General of Police to ensure maintenance of law and order on campus.
“We (the Assembly committee) will allow the police to investigate further on the matter, in response to the FIR filed. The committee will summon the accused on the issue thereafter,” she said. “The Dean is resorting to all measures to put pressure and also intimidating staff on communal lines.”
