The All Meghalaya Minority Students Union (AMMSU) has written to Education Minister Lakhmen Rymbui seeking an exemption 50 per cent of the fees paid for private schools.
“We request you to take a cabinet decision to exempt at least 50 per cent of fees for private schools and colleges for the student community since the guardians cannot afford to pay the full amount of school, college tuition fees due to the lockdown for Covid- 19,” AMMSU president Nur Islam said.
The union felt it was necessary to exempt school and tuition fees at this time for the period between March to December, 2020.
“As representatives of the student community and their guardians, we seek that you take up the matter with the authority concerned for needful action in this regard,” added Islam.
