The All Meghalaya Minority Students’ Union (AMMSU) has sought a probe by the CBI into the case of alleged rape by three members of an NGO in the plain belt while casting doubts over the guilt of the persons involved.
`”We are not supporting anyone but demand to know the truth. We have been participating in rallies, giving statements etc to bring justice to the victim. However certain revealations have shocked us and we demand a CBI inquiry into the matter,” said president of AMMSU, Nur Islam.
Three persons had allegedly raped a 16 year-old-girl while she was returning from tuition leading to an uproar. The matter became so serious that even an assembly committee sought details of the action taken in the matter. The case has been booked under POCSO.
While two persons in the case have been apprehended by the police, the third remained elusive. The first accused arrested in the case had allegedly been in a relationship and the act, as per them was consensual. He however claimed the others were not involved.
The NGO added that an inquiry was essential as the three accused NGO members could be victims of a political conspiracy as they had been vocal about quite a few subjects.
