Union Home Minister Amit Shah was reportedly happy with the progress being made to resolve the border dispute between Meghalaya and Assam, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said today.
Sangma had met Shah in New Delhi recently and briefed the Union minister on a range of issues, including the border, peace talks with the outlawed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council and the state government’s performance in the last four and a half years.
Shah, the CM said, was happy and positive about the border talks, Phase 2 of which began last month, “and said that he would like to see that we’re able to resolve these issues at the earliest.” However, Sangma informed Shah that Phase 2 deals with areas that are very complicated, so the process will be more tricky and take more time.
Shah was also reportedly happy with the progress report that Sangma gave him of the Meghalaya government. The report highlighted the positives, such as the boom in the number of self-help groups in the state since 2018, which have gone from 4,000 then to almost 45,000 now.
