Shillong, Apr 1: Residents of Shnat Raid Tynring have raised serious concerns regarding alleged corruption by Sirdar Wardington Nongrum amounting to over Rs 50 crores.
Addressing the media, a resident of the area O. Nongbri shared findings from an RTI application revealing that a 50-acre plot was sold to an individual rather than the Urban Affairs Department, as stipulated in the Dorbar’s 2022 decision.
He said the land, allegedly sold at Rs 250 per sq ft, has only benefitted 17 clans closely associated with Nongrum, raising questions about the transparency of this transaction. “Nongrum lied in the Dorbar, saying the land was sold at Rs 50 per sq ft, but the RTI shows it was Rs 250 per sq ft,” he said.
Another resident M Mylliempdah alleged that the Sirdar manipulated another 35-acre land sale. The RTI also revealed Nongrum sold this land without KHADC and Syiem NOC, making it illegal.
Residents are now considering legal action against Nongrum for allegedly manipulating land sales.
