In a sharp rebuttal to allegations made yesterday by the state Youth Congress, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma stated that all necessary permissions were obtained before construction began on the new National People’s Party (NPP) office.
The Youth Congress claimed yesterday that the new NPP office currently under construction has no building permission from the Meghalaya Urban Development Authority (MUDA). The building is perched on a road above Polo Ground and is already an imposing sight.
Sangma categorically stated that the allegations were false, baseless and just another attempt by the opposition to find some issue or the other.
Asked when the NPP received permission from MUDA, the CM responded that he did not have the exact details but that the NPP’s youth wing had already clarified concerning these allegations.
However, he did say that “We had received provisional building permission, which permitted us to start construction, on December 22, 2020. Once the designs were seen, the [Urban Affairs] Department asked for clarification from the party and it was submitted. After that, there was no communication from the department.”
