The A’chik Holistic Awakening Movement (AHAM) has cautiously welcomed the U-turn by the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) on the B Mahol lands.
Recently, the GHADC took the decision to reverse course and not proceed with the sale of the land, which citizen groups had argued was not the council’s to sell as it was just the caretaker and not owner of the land.
AHAM noted that while the reversal was published in the media, it is necessary to see documentary proof that the GHADC has abandoned the sale.
“Many a time, the politicians try to reap the benefits of public sympathy and favour by publishing news without legitimate documents and people take their words as the unfailing oath,” AHAM said in a release today.
The pressure group, however, also noted the Deputy Chief Minister’s recent boast wherein he stated that politicians have been fooling the electorate time after time and therefore demanded the GHADC show documentary proof that it has decided to revoke the decision to sell the land.
