The Achik Holistic Awakening Movement (AHAM) has threatened to launch agitations over the continued rise in fuel prices while asking the state government to look into the matter and provide subsidies for the needs of the common man.
“The hike in fuel prices on a daily basis is hurting the common man and hitting normal life. It is the duty of the state government to look into its taxation policy on fuel and bring relief,” said vice president Georgeprince Ch Momin.
Momin, through a press release said that they were in talks with various NGOs of the state and were also looking to rope in various vehicle associations to agitate and raise their voices against the unjust rise in fuel prices until a solution was found.
“We would like to request the state government to look into the pricing of fuel by reducing the percentage which is actually not a loss to the state revenue’s coffer,” said Momin.
AHAM has threatened to hold many rallies across the region with other NGOs against fuel hike.
“We request the government to increase salaries of state employees, release salaries of SSA teachers and release other dues to meet the expenditure of such unprecedented rise of fuel price. This continued hike in fuel is unacceptable and unjust to the common man considering the effect on the economy due to pandemic,” he added.
AHAM raised suspicion that by increasing the fuel prices, the government was trying to retrieve the revenue loss on account of election in various constituencies.
“If the government does not control the price hike at this juncture, the Pandora’s Box of all sorts is waiting to be opened in near future. We question the muted voice of all legislators whether in ruling or opposition as their silence supports the corporate rather than becoming a voice of the people they represent,” felt Georgeprince.
AHAM said that public outrage was inevitable if the government in question does not ease the burden of the people they represent, urging them to quickly look into the matter.
