The A’chik Holistic Awakening Movement (AHAM) has highlighted various issues regarding the functioning of Ampati Degree College (ADC) in South West Garo Hills.
In a letter to the college’s governing body, the pressure group said that ADC was formed by the Garo community but has seen an “unqualified non-tribal” , Mamunur Rafique Mondol, appointed to head the administration.
Appointments of lecturers were also not transparent and necessary procedures were not followed, namely the state’s job reservation policy (the college receives government grants).
“There are many qualified Garo candidates in the region in various disciplines, however, non-tribals and residents from the state of Assam were appointed in a haphazard manner,” AHAM claimed.
AHAM described Mondol as unqualified because, it said, he does not hold a PhD nor has he passed the National Eligibility Test.
